This home is more than rebuilt
On December 5, 2023, we experienced a devastating garage fire. Our garage was completely destroyed, and the damage extended throughout most of our home—we lost 90% of our belongings. This was our first insurance claim since purchasing our home in 2003, so we were completely unprepared and overwhelmed.
At first, our insurance company seemed supportive. We hired a contractor, but over time it became clear they were not working in our best interest due to the insurance company offering them preferred vendor status. Minimal testing was done, a limited estimate was provided, and no effort was made to pursue necessary restoration work. By May, we were being asked to agree to minimal repairs, even though nothing had been done beyond debris removal. It also became clear the contractor was being positioned as a “preferred vendor,” which explained the lack of advocacy for our home.
In early June, I sought a second opinion. I called five companies—only one rearranged his schedule to come out that weekend. That was Eric.
From the moment Eric walked in, everything changed. He thoroughly assessed our home and clearly explained what was needed to restore it properly. He identified serious issues, including contamination in the walls and HVAC system that had not been addressed or disclosed. We hired him on the spot.
Eric guided us through bringing in experts for independent testing, which confirmed extensive damage—far beyond what the insurance company initially estimated. When we submitted the findings, the insurance company invoked the appraisal clause, halting work. For eight months, Eric stood by us while we navigated the process, despite not being able to begin work.
The final decision was unanimous in our favor, with an award five times the original estimate, plus additional living expenses.
In June 2025, Renew Restoration finally began work. Eric and his team showed up fully—working tirelessly, often six to seven days a week, rebuilding our home from the ground up with care and precision.
By January 2026, we moved back home.
None of this would have happened without Eric. He advocated for us every step of the way with knowledge, integrity, and genuine care. What stands out most is his patience—he supported us through every challenge and helped guide us through overwhelming decisions, always listening and bringing our vision to life.
Eric Funnell is more than our contractor—he is family. We are forever grateful to him and the entire team at Renew Restoration.
Today, we are back home, surrounded by beauty and peace. This home is more than rebuilt—it’s truly restored.
